According to Allotey, the NPP government is creating the impression that the opposition party and its members are against the implementation of the poverty reduction intervention programe.

Speaking on Peace FM in Accra, the NDC man insisted that the NDC and its leaders never opposed to the Free SHS educational policy during the 2016 campaign.

But rather his party was only advocating for quality and equal access for effective implementation of the policy.

The NDC chairman who is clearly not happy says President Mahama constructed befitting educational infrastructure for Free SHS to thrive but President Akufo-Addo and the NPP is refusing to recognize him.

“NPP is creating the impression that we are against free SHS for votes because these children as first time voters will vote massively for them in 2020”, he lamented.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs added that President Akufo-Addo and the NPP must give credit to the NDC government for building more schools across the country for the commencement of the Free SHS policy.

The Free SHS programme is President Akufo-Addo government flagship intervention to widen the gates of opportunities for every Ghanaian child for Senior High education.

The Free SHS programme under the NPP will relieve the burden of parents of over 400,000 students entering Senior High School for the first time after qualifying from the Junior High School level.

Though the opposition NDC is on records to have vehemently kicked against the policy during the 2016 electioneering campaign, some key leaders of the party seem to have changed their position only to caution government over adequate funding for the policy.

Their swift U-turn over the policy appears to have angered some Ghanaians, especially NPP supporters branding the NDC and their leaders as hypocrites.
