Hajj flight delay due to technical fault - Bawumia explains

Scores of Hajj Pilgrims were left stranded and frustrated Friday as officials raced against time to get a flight to airlift the over 500 pilgrims.

Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has explained the cause of a delayed flight to Mecca on Friday August 11,2017.

Scores of Hajj Pilgrims were left stranded and frustrated Friday as officials raced against time to get a flight to airlift the over 500 pilgrims to Mecca.

Eventually, the first batch of the pilgrims were airlifted Friday night to perform Islam's fifth pillar.

But Dr Bawumia has been offering some explanation for the shaky start after promising
Muslims a world class Hajj organisation this year.

“We were supposed to have a plane, but when the plane [took] off from Saudi Arabia, a fault was detected after 45 minutes in the air,” he said.

As the pilgrims departed Tamale, the Vice president charged them to be good ambassadors.

"As you go, you are ambassadors of Ghana. Do your best to lift up the image of Ghana and live by the principles of Islam," he charged.
