Telenovelas are not bad, let's learn from them - Samira Bawumia

Second lady, Samira Bawumia is calling on captains of the Ghana movie industry to capitalize on the “quality of foreign telenovelas”.

Samira Bawumia recently faced severe bashing after visiting some actors of KumKum Bhagya - a popular Indian Telenovela which currently airs on Adom TV.

Speaking to a cross section on the sidelines of the Glitz Awards, Samir Bawumia made the case for Ghanaian movie producers to use these foreign telenovelas as a stepping stone to to improve the quality of their local movies.

“We have to learn from their successes, what is making them exciting, what is making them interesting and learn from them and improve on what they’re doing. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel. It’s a competitive market so we need to look out for what the Ghanaian consumer wants and give them just that,” she revealed to the media.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister for employment, Bright Wireko Brobbey is calling for stricter regulations to streamline the movie industry. The minister has argued that such telenovelas impede productivity in the country hence the need for them to be banned.
